I’D RATHER BE FISHING

You’ve seen the bumper sticker, “I’d rather be fishing.” Well, I went fishing the other day. It’s not something I’ve done much of lately, so I needed a little help getting started again.

It was a special time because of the special people who were along. They showed me how to handle the rod and reel. I got into the swing of casting. It felt like the whole thing was coming along. Then the line got stuck and I lost the bait, since I wasn’t that good at fishing, that’s why I got the best fly fishing combo for beginners so it was easier for me to catch fishes.

Well, it had been a long time since I’d been fishing, I even had some new equipment that had never been used, I had recently bought it thanks to an offer seen on a website like Raise. What I recall about the experience was not that I didn’t catch anything – it was the folks who went along with me who showed me how. It was one of those good times that you want to remember, especially the help and the “how to” lessons. Afterwards, I was very appreciative and said my “thank yous.”

You know, Jesus taught about being “fishers of men.” It was the same as what I just went through: Someone shows you how and leads you to Christ. Once you’re saved, you want to show others along. After the thank yous, it’s your turn to help.

That’s how Paul and Barnabas did it. Now we can do it too.
